Fiction Friday And Some Big News

Happy Friday, everyone!

I know I’ve been missing in action lately, and I haven’t given this blog much attention over the last couple of months. I’m doing my best to respond to all the well-wishes I’ve been receiving via Goodreads, Twitter, Facebook, and e-mail, and I’m hard at work on my next book, Covet. I appreciate all the comments you’ve left here at funny in the ‘hood, and I’m so thankful that you’re still dropping by.

I’ve received a large number of inquiries from readers asking if On the Island will ever be turned into a movie. Many of you have cast your vote for who should play T.J. and Anna, and I always smile when I think of seeing my characters on the big screen.

Especially him. Hello, Taylor Kitsch. You’d make a fantastic T.J.
Could Anne Hathaway be any lovelier as Anna? I don’t think so.
I love you, John Goodman. You’d be wonderful as seaplane pilot Mick. Sorry about killing you in the first chapter.

All kidding aside, I received some fantastic news yesterday and I’m beyond thrilled to announce that On the Island has been optioned for a feature film by MGM. I never thought I’d ever type those words.

I want to give my heartfelt thanks to my agent, Jane Dystel, of Dystel and Goderich Literary Management, and her co-agent in Hollywood, Steve Fisher, of the Agency for the Performing Arts, for making this happen. I couldn’t be in better hands.

I want to thank all of you, especially those of you who have been with me since I started blogging almost four years ago. You were there when I announced I was going to spend my blogging time attempting to write a novel so I could cross it off my bucket list. The result of that endeavor has been a dream come true, and my gratitude is endless.

I also want to thank the readers who have written to me to say that On the Island made them laugh and cry. Your wonderful feedback has made me laugh and cry, too, and none of this would have been possible without you.

Thank you.

xoxo,

Tracey

P.S. Some of you may have noticed that all the pictures have disappeared from my blog. If you’re ever on Google+ and you want to delete a photo album and you get a warning that says, “If you delete this album all pictures contained within will disappear from the Internet completely – do you still want to delete?” Don’t be a ding-dong and think, “Eh, that probably won’t happen, click!” Because, yeah, it will.

  1. I randomly picked this book on my Kindle and loved it! Thanks for a great story:)

  2. Oh My! I just finished the book. I read a review of it at amazon.com..Good thing I read it coz I can’t put it down..It is a refreshing read. You feel what the characters undergo because their emotions are told so vividly and in both the characters’ point of views. The steamy scenes are steamy but it didn’t detract from the quality of how the story was told.

I read somewhere that a movie will be made out of this book!! If this is so then I already have my preference to who will play Anna and T.J.

It is always a habit of mine that whenever I read a novel/ story, I first imagine what they would look like. I’m an imaginative reader so this helps me a lot with my reading. Most of the time I read the first chapters and get a sense of the characters and from there I envision it. Usually, I imagine some actors.

It is no different with this book. Putting these actors’ faces on the characters made the scenes in the book more exciting, dramatic (or whatever the author wants us the readers to feel) in the story.

I imagined NATALIE PORTMAN for ANNA and BEN BARNES for T.J. I always find Natalie to have both the look of maturity and intelligence in her yet at the same time, she has this effervescence that makes you wonder whether she’s younger than her actual age. She is sweet and charming and at the same time she is sexy. I had a hard time thinking of T.J. Who would play a 16-17 year old boy who will rock the brooding ill look with braces. Someone who could play a young man and evolve into an adult. I thought of Cam Gigandet at first but he wouldn’t pass the sickly type..Others will fit the sickly look but will not pass into the T.J. with long hair, dark tan and lean muscles. One who will exude the vulnerability and strength, the innocence and the maturity, and one who can radiate both youthfulness and manliness. Suddenly, I remembered this actor who acted as Prince Caspian in Narnia who also portrayed the same youthful yet manly roles in Easy Virtue and Dorian Gray. He would be terrific because he will be able to play a teenager with the pale almost bald look with a brace on his teeth then one who grew into a man who is tanned with beautiful long hair and with lean muscles. He could smile with naivety and could like at you with smoldering eyes like he’s already experienced.

If it will really turn into a movie, I do hope that Natalie Portman and Ben Barnes get cast as Anna and T.J. because they would be perfect for the role, personally speaking.

  3. Taylor Kitsch is handsome, but he is 31…
Logan Lerman would be good if he didn’t still look like he was 16 (he’s 20).
And I agree with a previous comment that Rachel McAdams would make a spectacular Anna.

  4. I just finished reading On The Island for my book club and loved it! I was thinking it would make a great movie and I was excited to find your blog and discover it will be!!! I’m already looking forward to your next book.

  5. Just finished On the Island. I absolutely enjoyed every moment. I laughed out loud and cried just the same. Your novel is still lingering in my mind and my heart! Congratulations on your success & movie prospects! I can’t wait to read more of your work & to see thus movie!

My picks for the movie would be: Liam Hemsworth for TJ & Rachel McAdams for Anna.

  6. Just wanted to comment on the character choice if On the Island is ever made into a movie (oh I hope, I hope, I hope). Taylor Kitsch – Spot on! John Gooman – perfect! However I just can’t see Anne Hatthaway having a diarrhea attack in the woods, or laying on the sand with baby oil and her hand. Her looks are perfect but I think Anna needs to be played by someone with a bold character. Someone like Scarlett Johansson. If you can taker her boldness and put it into Anne Hatthaway, you got a winner!

Anyway, LOVED the book! I just wrote a 5 star review on Amazon for you!

  7. I read this book in less than two days (which is pretty good considering I have two kids) and I LOVED it! Seriously, SO GOOD! Congrats on the movie option, I really hope it follows through!

  8. I am a 22 year old college student and I could not put the book down!! I really did love “On the Island” and I am looking forward to reading your future books. I would love to see the book become a movie, but I think Anne Hatthaway is too obnoxious to be Anna. Good luck!

  9. I haven’t finished my novel yet but this kind of success has me and my readers pretty excited for indie authors. Thanks for a great novel… can’t wait for Covet. One of your posts really hit home. You mentioned how hard it was to do the revisions 50-60 pages at a time. I love writing, but hate revisions. Was there something that kept you going? How did you get through all the revisions – what helped you mentally to prepare for it?

  10. I just finished reading On the Island……finished it in two sittings….its very good. I couldnt wait to see what happened to TJ and Anna. Loved the happy ending. So glad a movie is going to be made. Glad I bought your book on my Nook! Wonderful!
    Kay

  11. I accidentally found you and your book On The Island when I was shopping on my Nook. Under the best 100 books or something like that there was yours, I read the blurb and was hooked. I just finished reading it today and I want to congratulate you for a wonderful read! I write women’s fiction as well as general fiction and am thrilled that a fellow author has published a book. Mine is out in e-book format only but someday I want to see my books in print! And now I can’t wait to read your next novel.
    Patti

  12. I am so excited! I can’t wait to see the movie…please keep us posted on any news. Congratulations!

  13. So excited to see this wonderful book made into a movie! Congrats!! I have to say Anne Hathaway would be a TERRIBLE Anna. She seems too young and too annoying. Love the TJ and Mick ideas!

  14. I also started last night and finished this morning! I couldn’t stop reading, it was amazing! Congrats on the great news, can’t wait to see the movie!
